Rhythmic gymnastics is a very new sport to Americans, but our sport is getting bigger since the Olympics in '96.But,there are still some people that missed the Olympics and don't know much about it.So here is a quick summary. Rhythmic gymnastics is VERY diffrent from Artistic gymnastics (the regular gymnastics).Artistic gymnastics is the flipping, the bars, beam & vault...not to mention they're short & buff.Rhythmic gymnastics is alot more gracefull with a whole lot of flexability & dance.(If you were wondering,no we are not born this way,it's alot of work, say about 5 hours a day)We work with 5 diffrent pieces of equipment using them to do incredible tosses & catches.

The Hoop:it's mistaken alot for a hula-hoop,well it's not a hula-hoop.They're about the size of your waist. We do rolls across the chest & the back.We can do the same with the BALL.It's not like a Publix brand ball or a vollyball or a bowling ball. It's rubber & weighs about 1/2 pound. The ROPE:not a jump rope,it is cotton. We do tricks(kind of looks like we can rope cattle)and we also do difficult jumps. The RIBBON: NOT a ribbon dancer,NOT a streamer,NOT A FLAG.It is 6 meters long and we do pattern, tricks,& tosses with it.The ribbon must be moving at all times. Our routines are 1 minute & 30 seconds long each and we pick the music the best shows our style. And thats why we are known as the "Sport of Expression".
